Angelina Jolie finds “certain sounds” ease her “despair” and “pain”.

The ‘Maleficent’ actress, 49, who is still embroiled in a bitter custody battle with her ‘Fight Club’ actor ex-husband Brad Pitt, 60, after they split in 2016, opened up about how she thinks classical music and opera can soothe anyone in distress.

She said at the Venice Film Festival, where she is promoting her film ‘Maria’ – in which she plays opera singer Maria Callas – when asked about her musical tastes: “I was more of a punk and I loved all music but I probably listened to The Clash more than most.

“As I have gotten older I have listened to classical music and opera. I think I still love the music I did when I was younger, I would still listen to The Clash.

“But I think when you have felt a certain level of despair, of pain, of love at a certain point there are only certain sounds that can match that feeling and to me the immensity of the feeling encapsulated in the sounds of opera – there is nothing like it.

“That feeling that would move all of us if we were to hear it would be the only sound that would explain that pain, so I have leant more towards it now.”

Angelina hinted at her sadness after her father Jon Voight said he wishes her and Brad’s divorce battles would “be over”.

The ‘Midnight Cowboy’ actor, 85, spoke out about the former couple’s long-running disputes over custody of their six children and French vineyard – before issuing a public plea to Brad to put a stop to the disputes with 49-year-old Angelina.

He told Fox News Digital: “I wish that would be over. It’s tough. I wish they found a way to make peace.”

Jon added he is worried about how the warring couple’s legal woes has affected his grandchildren, with Angelina and Brad – who have been broken up since 2019 – sharing children Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and 16-year-old twins, Vivienne and Knox.

The Hollywood veteran went on: “I think that the kids need some stability. I love the kids and I love my daughter, and I want Brad to step up, too (and do) what he has to do (and) end this nonsense.”
