Matt Damon is "cool" with the idea of being an overprotective dad.
The 53-year-old actor has Isabella, 18, Gia, 15, and Stella, with his wife Luciana Barroso - who also has a daughter from a previous relationship - and when it comes to his daughters' dating lives, he only wants to "build self-esteem" but has no qualms about "playing up" to the age-old nature of being an overbearing father.
Speaking on SiriusXM, he told Andy Cohen: "Oh, man. I don’t know. I wouldn’t deign to give anybody advice other than I just try to listen and be helpful. I mean, ultimately, it’s about building self-esteem.
"I’m fine. I’m cool with [being an overprotective dad]. You know what I mean. That’s like an old trope that I think people, you know, like to play up. You know, dads like to joke about it amongst each other I think, sometimes, but no.
"You know, at least, our [25-year-old] has, you know, she’s got this incredible boyfriend who Lucy and I just love. We adore the guy and to see that she’s making those kinds of choices, really, it’s as good as it gets."
The 'Instigators' star recently admitted that he was coming to terms with the fact that his youngest was gearing up to leave home as he warned new parents that the life-change comes around so fast.
He told E! News: I called my friends and asked them how they dealt with it. What happened to them?
“It’s a lot. It’s a surreal kind of time and the way it operates in your life, the older you get, because it just feels like I was holding her yesterday
“To our relatively new parents, it happens quickly.”
