Jared Leto reveals why he is not attending the 2024 Met Gala after legendary appearance as a cat
Jared Leto will not be attending the 2024 Met Gala following his viral appearance as Karl Lagerfeld's cat last year.
Jared Leto will not be attending the 2024 Met Gala.
The 30 Seconds to Mars rocker, 52, made a memorable appearance at the annual fashion event - which is all headed up by Vogue legend Anna Wintour - last year when he dressed as Karl Lagerfeld's beloved cat but revealed he will not be on the red carpet on 6 May because his band will be going on tour.
He told E! News: "Back on the road. It's been five years! I will be there in spirit with my head and my cat; wishing everybody a beautiful night!"
The Hollywood star - who has also carved out a career as an actor in addition to his time as a musician - explained it had been a "pleasure" to pay tribute to the late fashion legend when he padded along the red carpet in May last year in a full feline bodysuit resembling the German star's moneyed moggie.
Jared gave the cameras a wave with his paw at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City last May and then removed Choupette's head to pose for photographs at the annual fundraising event.
Last year's theme was Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, in tribute to the legendary fashion designer - who died in February 2019 aged 85 - and the dress code was "in honour of Karl".
Speaking about why he wanted to dress up as the cat, Jared told 'Entertainment Tonight': "I knew Karl. He was always such a kind man to me.
"I could just imagine him looking down with a big smile on his face, seeing Choupette in all his glory. So, it's a pleasure to be here to support this benefit."
