Donald Trump danced to the Ghostbusters theme as he and Melania Trump welcomed children to the White House for an early Halloween celebration.
The US president, 80, moved to music played by the Air Force Strolling Strings after handing out chocolate bars to costumed trick-or-treaters on the South Lawn on Thursday (29.10.26).
The couple greeted families outside the South Portico, which had been decorated with pumpkins, autumn foliage and a giant illuminated harvest moon.
They did not wear Halloween costumes themselves, leaving that to youngsters who arrived dressed as superheroes, cartoon characters and famous Americans.
Among the visitors were children dressed as Barbie, Toy Story characters, race car drivers and a banana.
Trump also posed for a photograph with a youngster wearing a red Make America Great Again cap and clothing featuring references to the president.
The couple gave out large Hershey chocolate bars in special wrappers bearing the presidential seal, a Halloween greeting and their signatures.
Some children stopped for photographs, while others had items signed as they passed through the line.
The celebration included an unexpected spectacle when a presidential aircraft flew over the White House twice.
Trump looked towards the sky and pointed out the plane as guests gathered on the lawn watched it pass overhead.
The aircraft's low flights also drew attention elsewhere in Washington, with some residents surprised by the unusual sight.
The event was organised by the Office of the First Lady and welcomed thousands of ticket holders, including military families, law enforcement families and foster and adoptive families.
Melania walked out of the White House holding a young girl's hand, with several other children following the couple towards the celebrations.
Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller attended with members of their families.
Elsewhere on the lawn, guests could pose beside a giant pumpkin and collect small pumpkins supplied by American farmers.
The US Postal Service offered toy mail trucks and a postcard station connected to Melania's BE BEST initiative.
Other activities included science experiment kits, Michigan apples and colouring books distributed by participating organisations.
Trump had returned to Washington after an appearance in South Carolina earlier in the day, ahead of the November midterm elections.
The Halloween gathering took place two days before the holiday itself, which falls on Saturday (31.10.26).
