Sam Ryder hopes to 'smash' Celebrity Race Across The World
Music star Sam Ryder feels excited to compete on Celebrity Race Across The World.
Sam Ryder is confident he can "smash" Celebrity Race Across The World.
The 32-year-old musician is competing on the BBC show alongside his best friend and tour manager Kaz, and Sam thinks their background in the music business is ideal for the challenges of Celebrity Race Across The World.
Sam told the BBC: "We met in 2013. Two kids touring in vans. We just got on like a house on fire, straight away."
Kaz then quipped: "I’ve just been stuck [with him] for years."
And Sam - who has won five Brit Awards, two Ivor Novello Awards and a Mercury Prize during his career - replied: "I reckon we can smash this. Think about all the places we’ve slept over the years on tour."
Ella Eyre, another Brit Award-winning singer, is also excited to compete on the TV show.
The pop star is joined on Celebrity Race Across The World by her childhood friend Nana, and they're both relishing the opportunity.
Ella said: "There really aren’t that many people I could spend [several] weeks solidly with and still be able to laugh my head off."
Nana added: "We’re going to make a good team. I fear for our competitors."
Elsewhere, veteran sports broadcaster Jeff Stelling is appearing on the TV show alongside his son Matt.
Jeff, 71, feels he's competing on Celebrity Race Across The World at the ideal time, having scaled back his work commitments in recent years.
The former Soccer Saturday host shared: "Work’s been a massive part of my life. Now I don’t have quite the demands that I used to have, so it’s perfect timing."
Matt then joked: "It’s all aligned.
"In my time in hostels I have to say, I didn’t see a single backpacker in their seventies."
Meanwhile, siblings Princess and Junior Andre are determined to prove their doubters wrong.
Junior - whose parents are Peter Andre and Katie Price - is convinced they are "going to win" Celebrity Race Across The World.
He said: "We’ve kind of got a lot to prove. I’m so excited for this. I cannot wait to do this, we’re going to win."
