'It still haunts me to this day': What insect did Ruth Langsford accidentally swallow?
Loose Women presenter Ruth Langsford has confessed that she is still "haunted" by the time she unintentionally swallowed an insect.
Ruth Langsford is still "haunted" by an incident in which she accidentally swallowed a moth.
The 66-year-old presenter has revealed that she unintentionally ate one of the insects when it flew into her mouth and has been unable to forget the bizarre episode.
Asked for the strangest thing she's ever eaten, Ruth told Closer magazine: "A moth! It flew into my mouth and I swallowed it. It still haunts me to this day."
The Loose Women anchor says she is "mindful" about eating "a good variety of foods" to ensure she maintains a balanced diet.
Ruth said: "I'm mindful at my age of eating a good variety of foods to make sure I'm getting all the vitamins and minerals I need. I tend to eat lots of eggs, fish, chicken, fruit and vegetables, but I'm no saint! I love treating myself to ice cream, biscuits and chicken-flavoured crisps.
"For breakfast, I'll usually have eggs – poached, scrambled or boiled – with toast. Lunch is invariably on the go, so I'll prepare a big tuna salad to take with me.
"I always eat dinner early because I hate eating late. I'm partial to steak with vegetables or salad, and I try to eat fish at least once a week."
The former This Morning presenter also revealed that she sometimes indulges in a fish and chip "fakeaway" as it brings back happy memories of trips to the seaside with her grandparents.
Langsford said: "I have fond memories of going to the fish and chip shop with my grandparents and then sitting on the seafront in Newquay eating them out of a newspaper.
"Nowadays, I sometimes create a Friday-night fakeaway using the Young's Chip Shop range and, if I'm feeling a bit posh, I'll even make my own tartare sauce!"
Meanwhile, Ruth hinted earlier this week that she and her estranged husband Eamonn Holmes were reunited by the tragic death of their beloved dog Maggie.
Ruth and Eamonn – who announced their separation in May 2024 after a 27-year relationship and have son Jack, 24, together - had adopted Maggie from a Dogs Trust rescue centre in 2011, and the pooch regularly joined the couple on the This Morning sofa when they presented the ITV daytime show.
Speaking on Loose Women on Monday (19.10.26), she said: "It was her time. She was 16, although it doesn't make it any easier.
"When people who have had pets in the past say to you, 'You'll just know.' And I just knew. She got a bronchial infection, very quickly, we were with her at the end. It was very sad but it was very peaceful.
"Jack got home ... I believe Maggie waited for him, I really do ... She knew it was him and she licked his face.
"I'm so glad we were all there. It's heartbreaking. We're very thankful that we had her for so long. We rescued her.
"We know that we don't have them forever and it's very hard to accept. I just think we're very lucky to have them as long as we do."
