Balamory star Julie Wilson Nimmo announces mum's death
Balamory's Julie Wilson Nimmo took to Instagram on Saturday (10.10.26) to announce the death of her mum, Joan.
Julie Wilson Nimmo's mum has died.
Joan had been living with dementia for the last few years, and on Saturday (10.10.26), the Balamory star took to Instagram to announce her death.
Julie, 54, shared a series of shots of Joan over the years, with the caption: "Just to sadly let you all know about the passing of my beautiful Mum Joan.
"Thank you so much for all the love shown to me, my Dad and my sisters and my boys at this time. I know you loved her too.
"Love Jules xxx (sic)."
Her Balamory co-stars Kim Tserkezie and Andrew Agnew were among those expressing their condolences, leaving red-heart emojis in the post's comments section.
Altered Images singer Clare Grogan, 64, penned: "Such a tough one. Sending Love. Take Care (sic)."
One of Julie's fans typed: "I'm so sorry. I know the last few years were more difficult due to her dementia diagnosis. Sending loads of love x (sic)."
A second supporter wrote: "So sad to read your post Julie. Thinking of you and sending you all massive hugs - the photos of her are beautiful xxxx (sic)."
And a third follower said: "Awww Jules, thinking of you, doll. So sorry for your loss. May your beautiful memories of her carry you through this painful time. Much love."
In April, Balamory made its big comeback to CBeebies - 21 years after it last aired.
Fans were thrilled that Julie returned as Miss Hoolie, the enthusiastic Balamory Nursery owner who loves getting stuck into fun activities with the children, as well as showing off the vibrant island's history, culture and traditions.
Andrew, 50, was back patrolling crime-free Balamory as the friendly, nature-loving police officer PC Plum.
Kim, 53, reprised her energetic alter ego, Penny Pocket, who runs the community's bustling shop and cafe, while juggling multiple side hustles, from sports coaching to party planning.
And Juliet Cadzow, 75, came back as the wise and quietly authoritative bus driver Edie McCredie, who now also captains her beloved boat, the Sea Dasher.
Miles Jupp, 46, did not appear in the new Balamory series as the island's resident inventor, Archie; however, Danielle Jam played the character's daughter, Ava Potts.
Ava followed in Archie's footsteps and invited viewers into her workshop full of ingenious yet delightfully unnecessary creations.
Carl Spencer was introduced as Balamory's resident vet, Dr Ollie, whose surgery is home to a range of different animals, including Euan the elephant - whose trunk regularly steals the show.
Dr Ollie, dad to Bonnie and Hamish, adores storytelling, music and theatre, and he popped into the Balamory Nursery to entertain the children with facts about animals, songs and impressions.
And William Andrews, 49, starred as the clumsy Harbourmaster, responsible for ensuring the harbour is run smoothly while bringing humour to the quay.
Kate Morton, Senior Head of Commissioning for CBeebies, said it "has been a real joy" to bring Balamory back to CBeebies after 21 years because it "holds a very special place in the hearts of families across the UK".
She added: "It’s wonderful to welcome back beloved characters like Miss Hoolie, PC Plum and Penny Pocket, who have shaped so many childhoods, while also introducing a new generation of Balamory residents who bring fresh energy, humour and heart to the island.
"The spirit of curiosity, creativity and community that defined the original series remains at the core of this new chapter, and we can’t wait for young viewers and their grown‑ups to rediscover the magic of Balamory together."
