This Morning host Cat Deeley goes into a "spiral" about her children when she cannot sleep.

The 49-year-old star has become increasingly anxious about sons Milo, 10, and James, eight, since she split from their 55-year-old dad, TV presenter Patrick Kielty, after 13 years of marriage, with the former couple announcing their separation in July 2025.

Cat told The Sun: "I probably worry about the kids more now than I did then [when they were little]. I just want them to be happy, and I tend to worry a little bit too much.

"Sometimes when I can’t sleep at night, I go into this kind of spiral of, 'Will they be happy, and will they find something that they love to do?' and 'Will they find someone to love?'

"You just want the best for them."

She praised her support network, including her nanny, for helping to look after the youngsters while she works.

The SMTV Live presenter said: "I have a great team of people around me. I have a brilliant nanny who’s basically my right-hand woman. She’s just ace."

Cat and Patrick had lived in the US for several years as she fronted So You Think You Can Dance in the country, but returned to the UK in 2020 amid fears of gun violence following an incident in which he had to hide from a gunman in a Los Angeles mall.

Cat recalled: "They shut down the centre. I got a call from Paddy, saying, 'They're taking us out through the fire exits, but nobody can get to their car. If we walk to a junction, can you come and get us?'

"He wanted to keep Milo calm, so I didn't understand the enormity of what was happening. As I was driving, I began to see helicopters, news vans, firemen and SWAT squads. It makes me go funny now. It was terrifying."

She found moving back to the UK "really hard" – even though she felt it was necessary with Los Angeles becoming increasingly unsafe in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cat said: "It doesn’t feel as safe as it used to be. There’s an edge, which wasn’t there before. The health system is failing miserably. After the pandemic, there are lots of vulnerable people with severe mental health issues that have just fallen through the net."

She and Patrick met on BBC's Fame Academy in 2002, with sparks flying 10 years later.

But last July, the pair announced their split, 13 years after they tied the knot during an intimate ceremony in Rome, Italy.

In a joint statement, they said: "We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved.

"We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected. There will be no further comment."
