Coleen Rooney had one strict rule for the crew on her and Wayne’s new reality series - their kids could say no to filming at any time.

The couple and their four sons - Kai, 18, Klay, 13, Kit, 10, and eight-year-old Cass - star in Disney+ fly-on-the-wall show The Real Rooneys, which charts their lives at their Chester mansion, Coleen’s journey to becoming a fashion designer for Primark and Wayne’s move into punditry after being sacked as manager of Plymouth Argyle.

Coleen was happy to be filmed whenever she was needed, but she made sure her boys could get some privacy from the cameras whenever they wanted.

Speaking at a Q A, she said: “We did say to the crew from the beginning we can’t dictate what you’re gonna get from the kids. If there are times when they don’t fancy doing it then we’re not gonna force them to do it. So there were days when it was planned to be all of us but it was only a few of us.

“But then there are some moments in it, like when the kids are doing their interviews that we didn’t see, they are quite funny because you can’t get away with anything, kids tell the truth. There were little moments where they made me laugh. You can see their individual characters as well.”

Viewers will see Manchester United youth player Kai training on the family’s private football pitch and also see the kids boxing in Wayne’s private gym and tearing up the grass on their grounds in go-karts.

Coleen, 40, admits the crew suggested a lot of activities that the family said no to because they wouldn’t represent the six of them.

She said: “There were moments where the crew would say, ‘Do you fancy doing this?’ And I said no because it was unnatural to us. We wanted to stay true to ourselves.

“The kids would say on camera, ‘What are we doing this for?’ They would tell the truth. It’s real.”

Former England captain Wayne, 40, says the programme shows that the Rooneys, despite their wealth from his football career, are just a normal family who fight, laugh and love like any other family in Britain.

He said: “There’s loads of nice moments. It is a bit mad, but fun and loving. You see probably every emotion in there which I think you see in most married houses.

“We’ve both been in the public eye for a long time. We are very grounded people and the morals that we were brought up with from both our families have always remained with us. Of course when you’re on TV you might have to tone things down a little bit. But being at home with four young boys then that’s impossible. There’s arguments between us, there’s kids fighting, a bit of everything in there which happens in most homes. We’re really pleased with the outcome of it.”

Coleen added: “We are real people, we’re not robots. I think people looking on at people in the public eye think they don’t do normal things. When they watch this they will see that we do do normal things. We are in this extraordinary world but we are normal.”
