Noel Gallagher bought a cardboard cut-out of Matthew McConaughey
Oasis rocker Noel Gallagher has revealed that he put a life sized cardboard cut-out of Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey on display at his house after meeting the Oscar-winner at a wedding.
Noel Gallagher bought a cardboard cut-out of Matthew McConaughey after meeting the actor at a wedding.
The Oasis rocker has revealed that he displayed a life size image of the Dallas Buyers Club star in his front window because he had "never met anyone like" him during an appearance on Amelia Dimoldenberg's Chicken Shop Date show.
Referencing Noel's cut-out of former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, Amelia asked: "Do you have any other cardboard cut outs of people or is it just Pep?"
Noel, 59, replied: "I had one of Matthew McConaughey in my front window for a while actually."
The Wonderwall hitmaker went on: "I met him at a friends wedding.
"I had never met anyone like him so I bought a life sized cardboard cut out and put him in my front window for a month."
Noel previously recalled how he was left in awe of the True Detective star when they met at the wedding.
Speaking to Radio X in 2017, he said: "We’re on tour in South America with U2 and we’re at a wedding and it’s a really good friend of ours and he lives in Hollywood, Beverly Hills to be exact.
"And all these people are gonna be at this wedding. So, we‘re in the hotel foyer before we have to go off to this wedding thing. And me and Sara (MacDonald, his ex-wife), I’ll admit we’d had a couple of drinks."
Recalling his approach to McConaughey, Noel said: "I said to him, 'You don’t know me but I love you.'
"And he went (imitating American accent), 'First of all, I wanna thank you for coming across here and spreading the good word. Secondly, let’s get this couple married and we’re gonna stretch the 'something' out of this party.'
"And I was like, 'You know what, mate me and you are gonna be friends forever now.'"
Elsewhere in his chat with Amelia, Noel sung the praises of Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney.
Gallagher said: "He’s one of those rare people that when you meet him, you walk away from it feeling good about yourself."
Noel also revealed that he knew the Oasis reunion would be a success after just a week of rehearsals with brother Liam Gallagher.
He said: "You can’t make sure. You’ve just got to hope that you can do whatever it is you’re trying to do as well as you want to do it.
"And in the case of Oasis, it became apparent after maybe a week of rehearsals that it was going to be as good if not better than it ever was."
