EastEnders alum Melissa Suffield rushed her son to hospital after he suddenly became unwell on holiday.

The actress - who played Lucy Beale on the BBC soap from 2004 until 2010 - took River, six, to Accident and Emergency (A+E) on Sunday night (02.08.26) after he appeared "floppy and letharthy" and was "very difficult to wake up".

Melissa, 33, took to her Instagram Stories that day and posted a picture of the youngster sitting in the A+E waiting room, with the caption: "Not the most fun way to round off a holiday."

In an Instagram Stories post, uploaded on Monday (03.08.26), the former Casualty star detailed River's "quite scary" condition.

Melissa explained: "It was genuinely quite scary. He was very difficult to wake up yesterday morning. And then he'd be awake for about 2-5 minutes and seem like he was going to wake up, and then would be DRIPPING in sweat but with no temperature, and fall back to sleep wherever he was, and then be almost impossible to wake up again.

"Rinse and repeat. So floppy, lethargy, even sweating on the backs of his hands.

"As a lockdown baby, he's had the classic get hit especially hard by illness pipeline where his immune system just got challenged later in his life, so we are no stranger to an unwell child."

She continued: "But I had never had anything like this before, and more to the point, neither had my mum who was there and has five children. So that, combined with just how floppy he was, was enough for me to get him seen asap.

"He slowly perked up a bit over the course of the afternoon, and is then much better today. But I'm keeping a very VERY close eye on him, and will take him to our regular GP tomorrow too. Poor mate x.

"No idea what it was, has anyone ever had anything like this before? We were stumped as was the dr who saw him yday! (sic)"

In October 2022, Melissa revealed she rushed River to hospital for the third time in 16 days after he was struck down with a "nasty virus".

Taking to her Instagram Stories, the entertainer wrote: "Back to A+E again. That’s three visits in the last 16 days.

"Given 3 loads of nebuliser (he was NOT a fan) and some meds and he perked right up. Very much enjoyed having a biscuit in bed and making a friend who he called Baby, even though she was older than him.

"Have been sent home with inhalers to wean from the various nebulisers and some more meds. (sic)"

Melissa urged other parents to trust their instincts if they are concerned about their kids' health.

She added: "Basically very pleased we went in as it’s absolutely where we needed to be. Always trust your instincts.

"Just a nasty virus being nasty. Fingers crossed it passes quickly now, I am not up for a 4th visit next week, but more than anything just pleased he’s better now. (sic)"

Melissa has River with her husband, cruise ship worker Robert, whom she married in Las Vegas in February.
