Former EastEnders actress Melissa Suffield has eloped to Las Vegas to marry her partner Robert Brendan.

The 33-year-old star, who played the role of Lucy Beale on the BBC soap from 2004 to 2010, revealed on social media that they had tied the knot at the famous Little White Wedding Chapel in Sin City with just their son River, five, in attendance.

Melissa explained that she and Robert - who got engaged in 2019 - had decided to wed in an impromptu ceremony after their original plans were scuppered by the coronavirus pandemic.

She captioned her Instagram post: "When in Vegas... 6 years after our cancelled Covid wedding we thought we should probably get around to making it official...

"And yes, in the most 'us' silly and easy going way as possible. Can't wait to catch you up on the rest of our trip but now, we're catching a flight to California! SEE YA."

The couple and River were filmed sitting in the chapel's iconic pink convertible and follow in the footsteps of stars such as Frank Sinatra, Michael Jordan and Britney Spears by tying the knot in the chapel known renowned for quick celebrity weddings.

Melissa – who has reinvented herself as Instagram influencer The Confident Mama – previously revealed that she had planned a low-key wedding when her original plans were cancelled back in 2020.

She said at the time: "God know when this will happen. We had a party booked, because I'm not massively traditional. It's definitely not going to be a big church wedding with 200 people there, it's just not my style at all...

"Obviously the party we had booked is not going to happen. When it does go ahead, River will be up there front and centre with us during the service. I like to think of it as creating a family, rather than the joining of two people."

Suffield was axed from EastEnders when she was aged 17 in 2010 due to "unruly behaviour", although she questioned the decision at the time.

The star said: "It's not like I was going out, punching photographers and being sick in a gutter...

"I'm only doing what every other girl of 17 does. It's not an excuse, but out of all the things Lucy has done, the only one I've done is drink underage."
