An ex-Strictly Come Dancing contestant is battling a brain tumour and has metal plates and screws in her head following an operation.

Trishna Bharadia took part in The People’s Strictly For Comic Relief in 2015, a special edition of the BBC Latin and Ballroom show where six people were nominated to grace the dance floor with one of the programme's pros.

In 2008 at the age of 28, the health advocate - who danced with 36-year-old Aljaz Skorjanec - was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), and she has used her journey with the incurable chronic autoimmune disease, which impacts the brain and spinal cord, to help and support others with the illness.

But alongside living with MS, Trishna is battling a brain tumour and underwent surgery in May.

On Thursday (16.07.26), she posted a series of shots of herself lying in a hospital bed with her head bandaged, getting stitched up after surgery, and later smiling beside her hospital bed.

Trishna captioned the upload: "Life Update::. So the universe thought that multiple sclerosis wasn’t enough for my brain to contend with and two months ago I had surgery for a type of brain tumour. (sic)"

The former Strictly Come Dancing star said she is "recovering well with support at home".

Trishna added: "And the surgeon is pleased with how it went. I can absolutely say I’m a bionic woman now as I have metal plates and screws in my head! (sic)"

She went on to thank the hospital staff for their care, and her twin sister for being by her side before and after the surgery.

Trishna continued: "Special shoutout to all the staff at the hospital, especially the nurses in the recovery unit who were angels in scrubs looking after me for the first 24hrs.

"I have no words to describe my neurosurgeon - getting me through such a major operation with confidence, care and compassion. He was amazing!

"And also an extra special mention for my twin sister who was literally by my side for everything before and after, including when I was taken down to theatre, making sure I didn’t descend into a crazy mess of panic. (sic)"

She concluded: "Recovery is a marathon, not a sprint, but I’m getting there.

"Finally, if you or a loved one is affected by a brain tumour then do check out @thebraintumourcharity.

"Their information, support and counselling has been invaluable throughout all of this. (sic)"

Trishna's followers rushed to the post's comments section to wish her a speedy recovery, as one penned: "Sending you much love Trishna and strength for your perfect healing (sic)."

A second supporter typed: "Ooh gosh. So sorry you've had to go through this, but you are a warrior and will get through this! (sic)"

And a third fan wrote: "You’re healing so well! Keep it up! Sending more hugs. xxxx (sic)."
