Happy Mondays’ Bez is almost always drunk when he shoots Celebrity Gogglebox with bandmate Shaun Ryder.

The 62-year-old DJ joked that booze helps the pair get through the lengthy filming process as they react to various trending TV shows and films for the Channel 4 programme.

Bez told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: "You can only do that show when you’re drunk.

"So they get you a bottle of Jameson Irish Whiskey, and they always get us Guinness.

"But we’ve been drinking their lagers recently, too.

“It’s a piece of p***. We love it. You get paid for having a good laugh and getting p***** with your mate watching the TV shows.”

The dancer - real name Mark Berry - and Shaun, 63, have been regulars on Celebrity Gogglebox since July 2019, but Bez has “never watched the show”.

He explained: "I never watch myself on the telly because I’m always flabbergasted about how stupid I sound.

“I sound thick as f***, you know what I mean? It does my f****** nut in and I would rather not hear it.”

Elsewhere, it is reported that Bez has signed up for ITV’s Cooking With The Stars, as he wants to continue his success on culinary programmes, having reached the semi-final of the BBC’s Celebrity MasterChef in 2021.

A source told The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column: “ITV is delighted to have Bez on board. He’s chaotic in the best possible way and will bring the laughs with his brilliant anecdotes. And he’s a dab hand in the kitchen.”

It is believed that Bez will be joined by TV personality Scarlett Moffatt, 35, and comedian Seann Walsh, 40, on Cooking with the Stars, fronted by comic Tom Allen, 43, and 50-year-old Emma Willis.

An insider also told the publication: "ITV bosses loved Scarlett Moffatt and Seann Walsh on the recent series of I’m A Celeb: South Africa, so wasted no time snapping them up for Cooking With The Stars.

"There was a lot of drama in the camp this year and a lot of very tense TV, but Scarlett and Seann both came across so well.

"They didn’t put a foot wrong, and viewers loved them, so they are perfect for a feel-good show like Cooking With The Stars.

“They’re fun, up for anything and could be real forces to be reckoned with in the kitchen.”
