Ed Gamble wishes he'd "invested more time in acting" instead of getting "boxed in".

The 40-year-old comedian has become known across the UK for hosting the likes of The Traitors: Uncloaked and Off Menu podcasts, the latter of which he helms with James Acaster, and while he's grateful for his success, Ed has some regrets.

He told HELLO! magazine: "I wish I'd invested more time in acting. I gave up on being an actor really on and the UK comedy industry likes to box people in.

"So now that I'm doing presenting and stand-up, that's what I am in people's minds."

Ed recalled working on "a character for a long time" earlier in his stand-up career.

He added: "Then I did stand-up as myself. I wish I'd kept writing sketches; I wish I'd kept doing character stuff."

Ed acknowledged that things have "worked out", but there are other avenues he would have liked to pursue.

He explained: "I wish I'd written more different types of comedy and tried out different things, but I think I got set on a path very early on and stuck to it.

"yes, it's worked out for me, but I think now I've boxed myself into acting."

Ed's early credits came on the likes of Russell Howard's Good News and Mock The Week, while he won Taskmaster in 2019.

The following year, he started hosting Taskmaster The Podcast, while he became one of the rotating co-hosts on Pointless in 2022 following the departure of Richard Osman.

In 2023, he and James Acaster joined forces on the fifth series of Channel 4 show Celebrity Hunted.

Ed, who insisted it's easier to become a "multi-hyphenate" in the US than the UK, still sees himself as a comic above all else, and he has continued to tour over the years.

He said: "It feels as though it's shifting and changing all the time, because all the things I do are so different.

"I still love doing stand-up and consider stand-up comedian to be my main job title, but being able to podcast and do all these different TV shows...

"I just take all the opportunities that seem as thought they're going to be fun. My only aim is to enjoy myself, and that's a real benefit in a career."
