The X Factor's Katie Waissel rushed to hospital with 'severe' infection
The X Factor 2010 star Katie Waissel described it as "one of the most frightening and excruciatingly painful experiences of my life".
The X Factor's Katie Waissel was rushed to hospital after falling ill with "severe" bacterial pneumonia last week.
The 40-year-old star - who finished seventh on the ITV singing competition in 2010 - is now recovering after being treated for the serious lung infection at the private St John + St Elizabeth's Hospital in London.
In a lengthy X post, published on June 19, Katie penned: "Sorry I’ve been a little MIA, everyone.
"A couple of days ago I was rushed into hospital by ambulance and admitted as an emergency. It turns out I have severe bacterial pneumonia, so I’ve been rather unexpectedly residing in a hospital bed in Central London ever since. (sic)"
The Celebrity Big Brother 2016 housemate described the ordeal as "one of the most frightening and excruciatingly painful experiences of my life".
She continued: "At one point I was apparently far closer to the edge than I realised. It’s a very strange feeling being told afterwards just how serious things had become, when the whole time I genuinely thought I just needed to push through it and I’ll be fine because I have to be. (sic)"
Katie went on to thank those who cared for her, as well as fans, for their love and support while she has been away from social media.
She said: "A huge thank you to the extraordinary teams who have cared for me at @StJohnElizHosp, and those who continue to care for me around the clock at St Mary’s @lacor_hospital. The kindness, professionalism and compassion I’ve experienced has been nothing short of incredible.
"I’m taking things one day at a time, doing exactly as I’m told for once, and hoping to be back home sometime next week.
"Thank you for all your messages, love and patience while I’ve been quiet. Hug your people a little tighter tonight. (sic)"
Her supporters rushed to the post's comments section to wish Katie a speedy recovery, as one penned: "Frightening. I’m glad you’re on the mend and feeling better. Day by day!"
A second follower typed: "Oh my god I am so sorry to hear that Katie. I am glad you are better now and take all the time you need to make a full recovery. xxxxx (sic)."
And a third fan wrote: "So glad they’re taking good care of you Katie, get well soon and back to your family and own bed! Sending you lots of love and healing prayers. (sic)"
In 2021, Katie was rushed to Watford General Hospital after she suffered a suspected heart attack.
At the time, she took to Instagram and posted a shot of herself in hospital, with the caption: "Let me tell you, I was taken by ambulance yesterday for a suspected heart attack and @nhs @ldn_ambulance Watford general AND the ambulance services were / are amazing.
"I was initially told there was a wait by the ambulance call centre, but an ambulance was at my door within minutes. The entire team at Watford were / are beyond impeccable, and I am so grateful for your continued help!!
"So with this, if you’re experiencing a life-threatening emergency, do not hesitate to call 999, they WILL come for you!!! (sic)"
