Michael Owen lands reality TV show deal
Michael Owen is set to star in a new reality show called The Owens: A Stable Family.
Michael Owen and his family have landed their own reality TV show.
The former England soccer star and his family, including former Love Island contestant Gemma Owen, will star in The Owens: A Stable Family, which will focus on their equestrian interests at Manor House Stables in Cheshire.
An insider told The Sun newspaper: "Michael’s life in horse racing is a world away from his football career and fans will see him swapping big stadiums for stables and all the hard graft that goes with being a racehorse owner.
"All the family is starring in the show, not least Gemma who, since starring on Love Island in 2022, has been balancing life in the public eye as an influencer with over four million followers alongside her equestrian career, swimwear and brand deals.
"It’s set to be a hilarious and heartfelt look at a family who are juggling ambition and fame in public, as well as navigating a normal family life in private and all that comes with having to live up to a famous name."
Meanwhile, Gemma previously denied suggestions that she's been living off the back of her dad's fame.
The reality TV star has embarked on a horse-riding career, following her stint on Love Island, and Gemma insists that she's entirely responsible for her own success.
She previously told Tatler magazine: "There were a lot of classic not-very-nice comments, bringing Dad into it.’
"You know, 'Oh, Daddy got you a nice horse, so that’s why you’re here.' I really had to prove myself as a rider. I focused on competing and doing well."
Gemma feels "lucky" to be the daughter of a famous sports star and she acknowledges that Michael has been supportive of her ambitions.
However, Gemma has also had to work hard in her own right.
She told MailOnline: "I get negative comments and nasty messages a lot.
"In my dressage, if I'm doing well, I get comments like, 'you're only doing well because daddy bought you an expensive horse' and then with me trying to set up my own business I get, 'you're using daddy's money'."
