Alex Horne would love a Taskmaster World Cup, but TV bosses aren't so keen.

The 47-year-old comedian, who first created the Channel 4 series as a live stage show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, has admitted while he loves fans' idea of an international Champion of Champions series featuring winners from the show's various global formats, the decision makers "aren't that interested".

He told Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast Book Club: "I would love that. I used to love International Gladiators. Also Going for Gold.

"But I think commissioners aren't that interested. They don't want to see [a] Swedish person particularly.

"But I think that's interesting. I'd love to see that."

Alex - who appears on the programme as Little Alex Horne, the assistant to Greg Davies' titular Taskmaster - also played down excitement over a potential Champion of Champion of Champions series for the hit show, which sees comedians battle it out in a series of bizarre and whacky challenges.

He explained: "We're not at that stage yet – we've still got one more Champion of Champions to go before we even consider that.

"I do have a slight hunch that you should leave people wanting more. And you shouldn't always give people what they want.

"But I also think more people would prefer to watch a Loser of Losers, because that's what I get asked most, but I also have a problem with rewarding failure!"

Earlier this year, Alex insisted that rather than a show featuring the winners of the Champion of Champions spinoff series, the team have "something up our sleeves in the near-ish future".

Speaking to Radio Times magazine, he teased: "People ask us about adding a Champion of Champion of Champions.

"I think, instead of that, we have got something up our sleeves in the near-ish future, of doing a slightly interesting series.

"It's just some tweaks, but I can't say any more than that. So [we have got] something. We've got something up our sleeve."

The current series of Taskmaster will reach its conclusion on Thursday (11.06.26) with the grand final.

This season's cast includes Gavin and Stacey actress Joanna Page, Last One Laughing's Amy Gledhill, The Masked Singer host Joel Dommett, Veep and The Thick of It creator Armando Iannucci, and Hollywood star Kumail Nanjiani.
