Sue Perkins' dog has died.

The 56-year-old TV presenter took to Instagram and paid an emotional tribute to her and 55-year-old ex-girlfriend, Naked Attraction host Anna Richardson's devoted companion Staffie-Whippet mix Tiggy, who had to be put down after suffering with "pain".

Sue posted a heartbreaking shot of her holding the Tiggy's paw, with the caption: "She was my shadow. And when there is no shadow it follows that there is no light.

"She was so loved, but in the end we chose to break our hearts rather than see her in pain. I love you, Sweet Tig, always. I’ll write you a letter soon."

The former Great British Bake Off co-host's celebrity pals flooded the post's comments section with their condolences.

Vicar of Dibley legend Dawn French, 68, penned: "Bugger. So sorry. No grief like it. But lucky all of you to have had each other. Love for you x (sic)."

Celebs Go Dating's Coleen Nolan, 61, typed: "Just heartbreaking. Thinking of you x (sic)."

And former EastEnders actress Kacey Ainsworth, 57, wrote: "The kindest cut. The last act of love for our beloved pets to ease their pain and help them pass in peace. Our hearts are [broken emoji] in the process."

Sue's fans also sent their love, as one reacted: "We’re so sorry for your loss Sue. The bond we share with dogs is so special. Thinking of you."

A second supporter commented: "It is such a pain that is so hard to bear, but it’s the last act of true love. Still grieving for our very special boy too. Sending love + a strong hug. (sic)"

And a third follower said: "Oh Sue I’m sending you love and please know you will have been the very best of the best. I hope you have good loved ones around you x (sic)."

In October 2023, Sue opened up about living with Tiggy, who had "abandonment issues".

Speaking about the first thing she does on a Sunday, the comic told The Guardian: "Tiggy is fed and then comes another hour of sleep until she kicks me in the kidneys to say, 'I’ve not had breakfast yet,' and I’ll think, 'Don’t mug me off, you were fed at 5am.'

"Then she wins and has a second breakfast."

And on Sunday morning, Sue continued: "Tiggy suffers abandonment issues, so whatever I do, she’s coming with me.

"We’ll walk to see my mum or sister, or, if I’m home, I’ll time myself to scramble eggs. My brain needs to be set challenges, or it goes into mischief. Sometimes I think, 'I’ve got weird salt, a tin of beans and kohlrabi, what if I was on Ready Steady Cook?'"
