Elisabeth Moss is mounting a fresh bid for Emmy recognition.

The 43-year-old actress is set to compete in a new category for her return to one of television’s most recognisable roles.

Elisabeth, the Emmy-winning star of The Handmaid’s Tale, will be submitted in the guest drama actress category for her appearance as June Osborne in Hulu’s spinoff The Testaments, according to Variety.

She will enter Episode 103, Daisy, as her official submission after the Television Academy confirmed the spinoff qualifies as a separate series, allowing her eligibility despite previous wins for the same character.

The decision follows a petition by Hulu and Moss’s representatives, with the full list of submissions due to be released later in the awards cycle.

The move comes after Alexis Bledel withdrew from Emmy consideration for the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale last year following rule changes affecting guest acting categories.

Daisy, which premiered on 8 April, was written by Bayan Wolcott and directed by Mike Barker.

The episode centres on a school trip which prompts its central character to revisit suppressed memories of Toronto, revealing fragments of a violent past.

Created by Bruce Miller, The Testaments launched with three episodes and will run to 10 in its first season.

The series, adapted from Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name, is set in the dystopian state of Gilead and follows two teenage girls – Agnes and Daisy – as their stories begin to expose long-hidden truths.

Elisabeth appears in three episodes, keeping her within the threshold required for guest acting eligibility.

The show features an ensemble cast including Ann Dowd and Rowan Blanchard, alongside Eva Foote, Kira Guloien and Amy Seimetz.

Its predecessor, The Handmaid’s Tale, made awards history in 2017 as the first streaming series to win outstanding drama series at the Emmys, going on to accumulate 77 nominations and 15 wins across six seasons.

Elisabeth has received 15 Emmy nominations across acting and producing, including multiple nods for The Handmaid’s Tale, as well as recognition for Mad Men and Top of the Lake.

The Testaments is produced by MGM Television and 20th Television, with Bruce serving as creator and showrunner and executive producing alongside Moss and a team that includes Warren Littlefield, Steve Stark, Shana Stein, Maya Goldsmith, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears and Barker.

This year’s Emmy timeline begins with nomination-round voting from 11 June to 22 June, followed by the announcement of nominations on 8 July.
