Why doesn't Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon watch the soap?
Lucy Fallon, who portrays Bethany Platt on Coronation Street, has explained why she never actually watches the ITV soap.
Lucy Fallon doesn't watch Coronation Street.
The 30-year-old actress plays Bethany Platt on the ITV soap but has confessed that she never actually watches the show because she hates seeing herself on screen.
Lucy told The Mirror: "I don't actually watch Coronation Street. Not because I don't like it, but because I don't like to watch anything I do.
"Some people like to watch themselves, but I've never ever liked it. So, I don't really watch it and I don't really know what's going on in Corrie at the moment. But I love it at Coronation Street. It's my favourite place, it's my second home."
Lucy has teased that her alter ego will be at the centre of a storyline that could make her unpopular with viewers.
She said: "I can't tell you what it is, but it's not going to be great.
"I don't think people are going to be happy about it. This one is low-key her fault. Everyone is going to be like, 'She is a d***'.' Which is fine."
Lucy explained that she is comfortable with plots that depict Bethany in a negative light as she doesn't taking getting storylines "for granted".
She said: "I don't mind what it is as long as it's a good one. Being in the Platts is a good family to be in. It's an amazing honour to get a storyline, I don't take it for granted at all."
Meanwhile, Lucy revealed earlier this year that she spent five weeks as an inpatient at a psychiatric hospital as her mental health suffered when she struggled to get work after leaving Corrie in 2020.
The star - who returned to the cobbles in 2023 - told the Secure the Insecure podcast: "From quite young, I’ve always struggled. I’ve always been quite insecure. That got worse when we went through lockdown because I left Corrie and I wasn’t really getting any work."
She added: "I was just at the absolute rock bottom that I’ve ever, ever felt. And I really, really, really struggled.
"I had a really bad batch of mental health towards the end of 2020 and I ended up being in The Priory for about five weeks because my mental health was so bad. I couldn’t see a way out of feeling how I was feeling.”
