Father Ted alum Pauline McLynn is obsessed with tea.

The 63-year-old actress - who played Mrs Doyle, the priests' housekeeper who had the catchphrase "go on, have a cup of tea", in the Channel 4 sitcom - has a habit of buying teapots and other items related to the hot beverage.

Pauline wrote in her guest column for the new issue of Woman's Weekly magazine: "At least once a week, I go to Salford Shopping Centre. It's got seven charity shops, and I buy teapots and tea paraphernalia.

"I use them, but I also display them or hide them from my husband!"

The star - who has been married to Richard Cook since 1997 - quipped: "It's better than having a drug habit, but it is a habit nonetheless!"

Pauline's love for a cuppa has led her to launch a tea cossie business, where she sells her knitted items that cost between €25 and €65.

She explained: "Coming up to my 50th birthday, I decided that I would knit 50 tea cosies, and I would start selling them online. I decided to call them Go On! Tea Cosies because, of course, I have a history with tea from playing Mrs Doyle in Father Ted."

Pauline is so addicted to knitting that she does it on the set of ITV's Coronation Street.

The Maggie Driscoll actress said: "When I've come off, and there's a little lull in the action, I'll take out my knitting; I've always got a tea cosy on the go."

Pauline has portrayed the Rovers Return Inn owner since October 2025.

She said: "As Maggie, I'm playing someone a bit closer to my own age for a change - real life had caught up with make-believe, and I'm not sure I love it! Until now, I've mainly played older crones.

"When I played Mrs Doyle, I was just turning 30, and she was anywhere between 50 and 100.

"Now, I can't say anymore, 'Well, she's 30 years older than me, you know!'"
