Lucinda Strafford agreed to appear on Love Island: All Stars just three hours before boarding a flight to South Africa.
The 26-year-old star made a last-minute decision to jet to Cape Town to be a bombshell in the latest series, and she left the ITV2 show with a boyfriend, fellow contestant Sean Stone.
Speaking on Paul C Brunson's latest We Need To Talk podcast, she said: "I got a call in January and it was from one of the casting people and they said, what are you doing? And I said, 'I'm just lying in bed editing a TikTok. What are you doing?'
"Bearing in mind I haven't had my hair done in ages, I haven't had my nails done. You know, obviously the important things. I haven't planned anything.
"I haven't bought one single piece of clothing for this show at all. Right. And, he just said, 'Well, there's a flight tonight to Cape Town, do you want to get on it?"
However, some viewers claimed Lucinda was bullied in the villa, leading to 11,000 Ofcom complaints.
Lucinda has now told how she spent "a lot of time" on her own in the villa, and that Sean felt like her only friend at times.
Speaking about an emotional episode - which sparked more than 8,500 Ofcom complaints, over some of the other contestants' behaviour towards Lucinda - when host Maya Jama comforted her, she said: "In that moment when I was talking to Maya, I genuinely had no one to look to at all, apart from Sean.
"There wasn't one single person in there that I felt like was my friend. It was literally just Sean.
"And even that night I went to sleep. I didn't want to talk to anyone. I woke up the next morning. I looked around the bedroom and I was like, there's no one to even talk to. This isn't fun.
"And I remember I went outside and I just cried my eyes out on my own.
"But it wasn't shown because it was just outside the front door."
