Jodie Prenger is thrilled to stay on Coronation Street for another year.

The 46-year-old actress jumped at the chance to extend her contract on the ITV soap until at least 2027 because she loves playing Rovers Return barmaid Glenda Shuttleworth.

She told The Daily Star Sunday newspaper: "I've just signed a new contract, so I'm going to be on Corrie for another year.

"I always get nervous about whether or not they'll want me to stay, so I was thrilled when I got the offer.

"I knew straightaway I was going to sign. I love being on the show, so I'm thrilled to be staying for another year."

Jodie still pinches herself about being on Coronation Street - four years after she rocked up in Weatherfield.

The star said: "We were filming the other day in the undertakers ... Two cameras swished around, and I suddenly thought, 'Oh my God, I'm on Coronation Street.' It's lovely.

"When I was watching Corriedale [the special Coronation Street and Emmerdale crossover episode], I beamed with pride.

"It's easy to take for granted how good it is. As I sat there, I was like, 'Wow, I'm a part of that.'"

Jodie feels fortunate to be part of a show that means a great deal to people.

She said: "The thing with Coronation Street is the show is part of people's families. It has gone back generations.

"My nan was a massive fan. To carry that legacy on is something quite exceptional. Corrie will always have that joy."

Away from Coronation Street, Jodie is "happiest" when spending time with her animals on her and husband, businessman Simon Booth's farm.

In June 2024, the actress told OK! Magazine: "My Uncle Len used to have a bedroom for all his pot-bellied pigs, and I’d love a house pig myself.

"People think because you’re on Corrie you drink nothing but Moet and Chandon champagne and walk around wearing sunglasses the whole time. But I’m a real person. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

"I’m sure a nice, calm life would be lovely, but I prefer to be outside feeding the chickens and the cows.

"I do love putting a posh frock on for a fancy social event, but I know what makes me happiest and that’s the animals, even if I am smelling of chicken poo half the time!"
