Alton Towers Resort has revealed a giant portrait of Bluey made from more than 11,000 tins of beans to announce the official opening date of the world’s first Bluey roller coaster.

The impressive installation, which measures 20 by 15 metres and took 18 hours to complete, has appeared on the park’s iconic front lawn near CBeebies Land. The artwork features Bluey dressed as her mischievous granny alter ego, Janet, complete with headscarf, and is made up of 11,494 cans.

The bean-themed tribute is a playful nod to the fan-favourite ‘Grannies’ episode of the Emmy® award-winning animated series Bluey, in which Bluey and Bingo dress up as Janet and Rita — chaotic grannies known for slipping on beans and causing mayhem.

The installation marks the countdown to the opening of Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies!, which will officially launch on 28 March.

The new attraction, located within CBeebies Land, is designed especially for pre-schoolers and young families and will take guests on a journey through Bluey’s Backyard.

Howard Ebison, Vice President of Alton Towers Resort, said: “Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies! is all about celebrating energy, play and those everyday moments families love about the show. The ‘Grannies’ episode is a firm favourite with our guests, so creating a giant Bluey made from more than 11,000 bean cans felt like the perfect way to mark the countdown to opening day. It’s playful, unexpected and unmistakably Bluey - and we can’t wait to welcome families from March 28.”

Natasha Spence, Events Director, Live Entertainment at BBC Studios, added: “‘Grannies’ is an iconic episode of Bluey… Seeing this fantastic on-screen detail brought to life in such an imaginative way truly celebrates the countdown.”

Alongside the new coaster, the resort will introduce additional Bluey-themed rooms at the CBeebies Land Hotel, reinforcing its position as a leading UK destination for young families.
