Former The Traitors winner Harry Clark is hoping to meet Pope Leo in an upcoming BBC documentary.
Harry Clark is trying to meet the new Pope in an upcoming BBC documentary.
The Traitors star - who won the 2024 series of the BBC's deceitful game show and appeared in last year's Pilgrimage: The Road Through the Alps - is reuniting with the broadcaster for a one-off hour long programme with the working title Harry Clark Goes To Rome..
He said in a statement: "Faith has shaped who I am from a young age, so being able to travel to Rome with the BBC is something I never imagined possible.
"This feels like a once-in-a-lifetime journey, and I’m excited to share this news and every step of my epic adventure.
"I’m praying that it may even lead to meeting Pope Leo.”
The documentary will delve into questions of "belief, identity and what it truly means to be a 'good' Catholic' in the modern world which for Harry is centred on pubs, clubs, media events and relationships.
He prepares for his trip to Rome and the Vatican by talking with his family and friends, girlfriend Anna, his childhood priest, and his mother Georgia, who accompanies him on his journey.
Alongside his spiritual journey is what the BBC has described as a "determined and often comic" attempt to meet the Pope.
They teased in a press release: "Through letters, phone calls, social media messages and every conceivable route of access, Harry pursues a meeting with the Pope, despite the scepticism of friends who question the odds. "As one friend puts it bluntly: 'Why would the Pope want to see you?' "
He does manage to secure a meeting with a Cardinal from the Pope's inner circle and a member of the conclave itself, which could be his way to achieve an almost impossible goal.
Daisy Scalchi, BBC's Head of Religion and Ethics for television, commented: “Harry brings a fresh, funny and very personal perspective to the conversation about faith. "Audiences are in for some hilarious moments and jaw-dropping surprises along the way”
And Karen Emsley, Executive Producer at CTVC, added: “This film captures an incredibly personal and powerful journey - not just to Rome, but deep into faith, family and identity.
"Harry’s warmth, honesty and remarkable determination mean you find yourself rooting for him right to the very end.”
