ITV has commissioned Freddie Flintoff’s Mission: Nepal, a three-part documentary following Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff as he revisits the surgeon who rebuilt his face after his devastating Top Gear crash.

The 48-year-old former England cricketer will travel to Nepal with consultant maxillofacial surgeon Mr. Jahrad Haq to support patients in need of life-changing facial surgery, in a project inspired by his own recovery.

Speaking about the new series, Freddie said in a statement: “After my crash, I had access to the best people.

“Not everyone gets that. If there’s a way to shine a light on it, to use what profile I’ve got for that, then that’s what I’ll do …”

In Freddie Flintoff’s Mission: Nepal, viewers will see Freddie immerse himself in Nepalese life while Mr. Haq joins charity Face Facts to operate on patients who have little or no access to free healthcare.

The series aims to highlight both the personal stories of those undergoing surgery and the wider challenges facing healthcare systems in remote regions.

Clare Cameron, Executive Producer at 72 Films, said: “This series is about humanity, resilience and the power of shared expertise.

“We’re privileged to be working with Face Facts, Mr. Haq and Freddie, whose own experiences will bring real empathy and openness to the story.”

Joe Mace, Commissioning Editor for Entertainment at ITV, added: “We are excited to follow Freddie and the team on this journey, one that will combine intimate personal storytelling with extraordinary medical access.”

Freddie’s life changed in late 2022 when he sustained serious facial and rib injuries while filming for Top Gear.

He later underwent extensive reconstructive surgery led by Mr. Haq, and has since spoken candidly about the emotional toll of the accident.

Reflecting on his recovery in a previous documentary, he admitted: “It was, what – 18 months ago? And you know, I’ve suffered with things like depression in the past before, but this time was different.

“I didn’t know if I had it in me to carry on, not that I wanted to die or anything like that, I just didn’t know if I had it in me, and that took a while.

“The one thing you just want to be is happy in yourself, and try and be accepting of yourself of what you are. It took me a long time to be like that, and then the crash put me back again, and now it’s like finding myself or finding the person I want to be.”
