Joe Thomas knows The Inbetweeners creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris are “writing something” new for the hit teen comedy.
Following the E4 coming-of-age programme’s conclusion in 2010 and the subsequent movies in 2011 and 2014, Beesley, 54, and Morris, 52, struck a deal with production company Banijay UK to produce more Inbetweeners content, and Thomas - who portrayed the awkward Simon Cooper in the show - has now given fans some fresh insight into what could be next for The Inbetweeners.
During an interview at The Comedy Rooms, the 42-year-old actor said: “What has happened is that the people who write The Inbetweeners a while ago sold the rights to a larger entity, and they recently bought them back so they can make some more.
“I’m really excited. I don’t know what they’re doing. I just know they’re writing something, and I would really love to do it.
“That’s pretty much it. I hope there’s more because I’ve not got that much else to do! I do like The Inbetweeners as well!”
The Fresh Meat star added fans often shout catchphrases from The Inbetweeners at him in the streets - including references to Simon’s love interest Carli D’Amato (Emily Head).
He continued: “Well yeah. People shout ‘Carly’ and things like that.
“One time I was playing football with Simon Bird who plays Will, and someone just shouted out ‘Your Mum’s a c***!’ That’s not a line from the show, that’s just rude. Neither of our Mums are c****!”
Thomas starred alongside Simon Bird (Will McKenzie), James Buckley (Jay Cartwright) and Blake Harrison (Neil Sutherland) across The Inbetweeners’ three E4 series and its two movies.
The foursome was seen again in the 2019 special The Inbetweeners: Fwends Reunited, where they reflected on the legacy of the series.
In October 2025, Beesley and Morris confirmed they were working on new material for The Inbetweeners.
The pair told The Sun newspaper: “It’s incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh, friends).”
While what the future holds for The Inbetweeners remains uncertain, it has been confirmed the IP could return “across a range of platforms, including film, TV and stage”.
