Stephen Fry poised to return to US network television in leading role
After decades of TV and film appearances, Stephen Fry is set to return to US network television in a leading role.
Stephen Fry is set to return to US network television in a leading role.
The 68-year-old will star in Fox’s The Interrogator after the network commissioned an initial 12-episode run of the upcoming series.
It comes as Fox continues to build its scripted slate for the 2026–’27 broadcast season.
The drama centres on a former intelligence operative and will be produced by Lionsgate Television and Fox Entertainment Studios.
Stephen is attached as both lead actor and writer, having penned the pilot episode, which was later revised by Bill Harper and Matt Pyken.
All three serve as executive producers alongside Anonymous Content, Neil Burger and Paul McGuigan, with Paul also directing.
Likely Story’s Anthony Bregman and Miriam Mintz will executive produce, with additional executive producers including Paul Lee, Gabriel Fisher, Peter Principato, Allen Fischer and Brian Steinberg.
The official logline for the series states the show is “centered on Conrad Henry (Stephen Fry), former MI6 agent, and his elite team”.
It adds: “When conventional methods have failed, Henry’s quirky charm, superior intellect, and mind-bending behavioural manoeuvres make him the only man able to lockpick the minds of the world’s most dangerous criminals.”
Stephen has a long history with Fox, having previously appeared in the procedural series Bones as Dr Gordon Wyatt.
His television career also includes prominent roles in Blackadder and A Bit of Fry and Laurie, while his film credits include Wilde, Gosford Park, V for Vendetta and Love and Friendship.
He is represented by CAA and Hamilton Hodell.
The Interrogator marks the latest series pickup for Fox as it prepares its schedule beyond the current season.
Fox has also greenlit a reboot of Baywatch, a project that has taken several years to reach a formal series order, and which was confirmed in September.
At present, Fox has a relatively small scripted drama line-up.
Its current offerings include the medical drama Doc, the adaptation Best Medicine – which stars Josh Charles and is based on Doc Martin – and the recently launched thriller Memory of a Killer, starring Patrick Dempsey.
The addition of The Interrogator expands that roster as Fox looks to strengthen its drama output heading into the latter part of the decade.
