Graham Norton changed his chat show to stop him from “getting bored”.

The 62-year-old presenter shared how he had switched from splitting up filming for The Graham Norton Show across the year to shooting in one go - all in an effort to keep things interesting for him.

During an appearance on the Wanging On With Graham Norton and Maria McErlane podcast, he said: “I used to do a thing where we’d end in February and then we’d have a few weeks off, and then we’d come back for eight weeks in April, May.

“And about five or six years ago I got rid of that bit.”

He added the decision stopped him from “getting bored” with the BBC programme.

Graham continued: “And now it’s lovely, so we’re on for about half the year, off for about half a year.

“And it means by the end of February, I’m still really enjoying it, I’m not bored with it and then I kind of miss it because I'll be looking forward to coming back at the end of September.”

Asked about what his favourite part of the current 33rd series has been so far, Graham said: “Do you know the biggest surprise to me all season was, one I’m still alive, but also Kim Kardashian, who I had a very different impression of her before I met her – just that she was a reality person who was famous for no reason.

“She is very driven, very ambitious and has a kind of talent for that – a talent for building a brand.”

The host also spoke about the future of The Graham Norton Show, saying: “We signed a thing saying three more.”

He then quipped: “They’ll have to get rid of those steps on to the stage – just a little ramp, a low ramp to get me up there, and I’ll have those shows with a wheel on the heel and I can just scooch on to the stage and go ‘Hello, welcome’. The guests will introduce themselves.”

Graham also revealed he had to sign a non-disclosure agreement when he was placed on the guestlist for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding.

He said: “Oh, lovely Taylor Swift. I can say nothing. I've signed so many NDAs.”

His co-host Maria McErlane joked that she is “very much looking forward” to joining him, but Graham joked: “Right, over my husband's dead body.”
