Graham Norton's novel Forever Home is being adapted into a Channel 5 drama series.

The new show is being developed by studios FilmNation Entertainment and Mediapro and will feature Downton Abbey actress Amy Nuttall alongside former Shetland star Douglas Henshall in the cast.

Other stars to have signed up include Denise Welch, Kevin Whately, Samantha Bond, Lewis Cope, Shane Zaza, Jenny Walser and James Baxter.

Forever Home centres on a woman called Carol Crottie, who finds a long-dead hidden body in the basement of her house as the horrific realisation that she is living with a killer dawns on her.

The story that Robert's first wife, Joan, ran away never to be seen again now appears to be a lie and the fact that he has insisted on never selling the house suddenly makes sense.

Norton will serve as an executive producer on Forever Home, which is being adapted for television by Clara Salaman with Paul Gay and Claire Winyard directing.

The 62-year-old broadcaster said: "In writing Forever Home, I was initially inspired by the simple idea of packing up a home later in life, and the 'what if' scenarios and complexities that come with later-life relationships.

"The novel soon evolved into a funny, twisted, 'dark-romp' full of farcical scenes and it's wonderful to see the depth and richness of Carol's story realised as a screenplay."

FilmNation creative director Kirstie Macdonald added: "From the moment I read the always-hilarious Graham Norton's brilliant novel, I knew I wanted to bring Forever Home to the screen. It's a story full of twists and turns, secrets, and emotional depth that we can't wait to bring to life for 5 audiences."

Erika Kennair, Head of Scripted at Mediapro US and Canada, said: "We are thrilled to partner with the talented Clara Salaman, the groundbreaking FilmNation and the iconic 5 to bring Graham Norton's exciting and witty book to life."

Norton has penned six novels and three non-fiction books, with his novel Holding adapted into a TV series by ITV in 2022 -starring Game of Thrones actor Conleth Hill and Derry Girls actress Siobhan McSweeney.
