Andrew Scarborough kept his Emmerdale return a secret for six months.

The 52-year-old actor made a shock return to the ITV soap as Graham Foster in the Corriedale crossover special with Coronation Street earlier this month, despite the character seemingly being murdered back in 2020, and explained that he had to keep the big secret under wraps for a long time.

Andrew told Inside Soap magazine: "It was hard to keep it mostly quiet from my family, just a limited few knew. It was amazing we did it, I thought it was going to spill as I was filming two months before I was on screen in Corriedale and had known I was coming back for a further four months before that."

The Downton Abbey star recalled how he had to be smuggled onto the Emmerdale set in disguise and was even given the codename Bruce to stop outsiders catching on to his alter ego's rise from the dead.

He said: "I had to come and go through the special entrance. I wore a hood or a hat, and probably looked very suspicious!

"In scripts and paperwork I had a code name of Bruce. They said it was after Bruce Wayne, but on my first day I was noted down as Bruce Forsyth!"

Scarborough has returned to Emmerdale after six years away and admits that it took some time to re-adjust to the fast pace of work on the soap.

He said: "The atmosphere is still great. Maybe the pace has got quicker, or I'm a bit older and my brain is still adjusting to be agile enough to work that quick!

"We all walk around with a small novel in our hands to learn every week! But I love sharpening my brain up, after a full day's work it feels like you've achieved something."

Andrew is "excited" about what's in store for Graham back in the Dales and has suggested that the character's past could be coming back to haunt him in future episodes.

He said: "I'm quite excited, but I can't reveal any more than that! Let's just say it's going to involve something that catches up with him..."
