Brendan O'Carroll wants his talk show back.
The Mrs. Brown's Boys star's spin-off programme, All Round To Mrs. Brown's, ran from 2017 to 2020 before being shelved during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the 70-year-old comic would "love" to bring it back to screens because of the freedom he had with his guests.
He said: "We loved doing the show. It was a lot of fun. I would like to do it again. The show was doing really well. What messed it up was the pandemic.
"When I'm Agnes, I can say just about anything.
"I remember when we had Caitlyn Jenner on. I went to her dressing room and I said to her, ‘Where’s the line? I don’t want to cross the line’.
“She said, ‘No line’. And I said, ‘Really?’. That was a red rag to a bull...
"She was absolutely magnificent.”
Mrs. Brown's Boys returns with its annual festive episode on Christmas Day (25.12.25) and though there are no famous cameo appearances, Brendan hopes to get one particular name in the future.
He said: “My dream guest would be Ed Sheeran.”
While there will also be a special New Year episode of the sitcom, its longterm future is still uncertain, though Brendan is keen to carry on.
Asked if there will be another series, he said: “They haven’t asked yet, but if they do, I’ll certainly think about it.
“The last one went really well.
“I found it so freeing to write a mini-series because I didn’t have to do a Christmas tree.
“I could write whatever I wanted.”
Brendan insisted he "doesn't mind" if the BBC opt not to make any further Christmas specials.
He said: "I will keep doing it for as long as they want to. The BBC have indicated they want me to go on after next Christmas, and if I do, I will sign a one-year contract at a time.
"We have been doing this a long time, the viewers love it, and we get the ratings.
"People forget that shows like Fawlty Towers and The Office only made 12 episodes – and here we are 15 years later doing this between the Mrs Brown’s Boys mini-series every two years and annual Christmas and New Year’s one-off specials.
"I don’t mind if the BBC turn around and wants to put someone else on on Christmas night, it doesn’t bother me.
"We have enough to get on with, we will be touring Australia and South Africa with the Mrs Brown Boys show next year."
