Love Island alum Malin Andersson is "sad" not to be spending Christmas Day with her daughter this year.

The 33-year-old TV personality, who shot to fame on the ITV dating show in 2016, has been co-parenting Xaya, three, with her ex-partner Jared since they split in February 2022 - a month after the tot was born.

In a candid Instagram video, Malin said that her bundle of joy will wake up at her house on Christmas morning, but will spend the rest of the big day at Jared's home.

Malin - who said it is "unimaginable" being without Xaya on Christmas Day - explained in the emotional video: "Xaya is going to be with me until 11am, and then she is going to be returned at 4pm.

"So, from 11 until 4, I’m gonna play on the Xbox, eat loads of cheese and chocolate, and feel sad. Or, occupy myself, I don’t know."

Pointing out that this is a new situation that the family finds itself in, Malin - who lasted 25 days on Love Island - continued: "This year is going to be the first organised, scheduled co-parenting day for Christmas we've had because last year was a write off.

"The year before I was in rehab and the year before that, I spent with his family because I was lonely.

"It’s a really, really weird time of year for those that co-parent; to not be with your child on Christmas day is unimaginable; it’s weird. It’s like, 'I don’t even want that,' but it is what it is."

Malin ended up going to rehab for binge-drinking and drug use following her split from Jared and the tough years beforehand.

This included losing her mum after she lost her battle with stomach cancer at the age of 65 in 2017, and Malin's baby daughter Consy dying from complications of being born prematurely two years later.

At the end of the video, Malin - who has now turned her life around and works as a wellness coach - suggested to her followers that they could video call her to lift her mood.

The star said: "I'd love to know what your plans are, how you're keeping yourself busy, and what you're going to be getting up to.

"Because if you're going to be alone, maybe we should all just jump on a FaceTime call and just have fun. I don't know."

At the time of Malin and Jared's split, she told OK! magazine that "there was a lot of pressure involved" and was " relying on him so much that I feel like he lost himself a bit".

Malin admitted: "It was best for both of us to take some months apart, so that’s what we did."
