Loose Women panellist Mariella Frostrup is bracing for a chaotic Christmas as her husband is injured and their mischievous puppy threatens to shred the presents.

The festive dinner, cleaning, preparing the log fire, and helping with the unwrapping of presents are typically done by her husband, Jason McCue, but he will not be doing the tasks this year because he broke his arm following a nasty fall off a ladder.

And the neatly-wrapped gifts underneath their tree will not last long because their boxerdoodle Moby will get hold of them and rip the presents to shreds.

Mariella - who has a daughter called Molly Mae, 13, with Jason - penned in her latest column for HELLO! magazine: "I'm at home for Christmas, and after a stimulating and satisfying year of travelling, campaigning, broadcasting, hosting and book launching, I'm looking forward to hunkering down and doing as little as humanly possible.

"But I've just had a spanner thrown firmly in the works because my Christmas-addict husband fell off a ladder while stringing lights and broke his arm.

"I'm hugely sympathetic as he wanders in a cast, but I can't help feeling a generous helping of self-pity, too."

However, Mariella, 63, and Jason's loved ones may help save their festivities.

The TV-and-radio presenter continued: "We've got a houseful over the festivities, and guess who won't be cooking, cleaning, carrying in logs for the fire, or, worst of all, helping with the present-unwrapping, which is his specialist talent?

"Then again, with a new puppy in the house, the presents under the tree aren't going to last very long.

"Nobody will have time to notice how badly wrapped they are when Moby, our boxerdoodle, gets his teeth into them..."

Elsewhere in her column - in which she advised readers on how to make a "confident solo appearance at a party" - Mariella admitted she is "better company" when she has not got Jason "in tow".

The star married Jason in 2003, 19 years after she divorced filmmaker-and-TV presenter Richard Jobson, 65, in 1984.
