'The dangers are so real': Peter Andre backs Australia's social media ban for under-16s
Peter Andre is supportive of Australia's decision to ban social media for under-16s and hope more countries around the world follow suit.
Peter Andre supports Australia banning social media for under-16s.
The 52-year-old star was raised Down Under and backs the Australian government's decision to restrict teenagers' use of social media because of the damage it can do to the mental health of youngsters.
Peter – who has son Junior, 20, and daughter Princess, 18, with his ex-wife Katie Price as well as Amelia, 11, Theo, nine, and Arabella, 18 months, with his spouse Dr. Emily MacDonagh – wrote in his New! magazine column: "Australia has implemented their social media ban for under-16s, and it's great.
"People ask me if it's a contradiction that I've had my kids on social media, but we have to remember that when social media first started we were all new to it. We didn't know the pitfalls of it.
"Now, we're seeing what AI can do, and it adds to the dangers. We are realising the damage it's doing to children's mental health.
"I fully support the ban. I know that's not what kids under 16 want to hear, but it will do them so much good. I hope the rest of the world catches on. The dangers are so real."
Meanwhile, Peter revealed his annoyance at the 'nepo baby' label - after actress Kate Winslet urged her kids to ignore the tag as they emerge into the limelight.
The Mysterious Girl singer said: "The term doesn't make sense to me as it seems to single out people in the entertainment industry.
"Most parents will have at least one of their children wanting to follow in their footsteps. But when an opportunity comes your way, you have to work hard at it to succeed."
Andre also explained that he won't be making any New Year's resolutions as he would prefer to start working towards a goal straight away.
He wrote: "In Australia, New Year's is a big, big thing. Everyone goes to the beach, where there are fireworks displays.
"Although we'll be here in the UK, I think we're all going to be in Somerset – we'll do a big thing in the West Country with fireworks and a party.
"I try to stay away from New Year's resolutions. I've always believed that if I'm going to start something in the new year, I'd rather start it from now instead of waiting for a date. I worry that I'll set myself up for failure."
