Chase Infiniti: 'Women of colour are some of the most unprotected in society'
Chase Infiniti has hit out at the way women of colour are treated in society.
Chase Infiniti says women of colour are among "the most unprotected people in society".
The 26-year-old actress has reflected on her lead role in The Julia Set, when the student ends up in an unhealthy romance with teaching assistant Pascal (Christopher Briney).
Chase told Variety: "Julia is always doing the next best thing for herself, and also for Pascal.
"Unfortunately, women of colour don’t have the luxury of thinking only about themselves. They’re thinking for everyone around them.
"This is especially [true] in an abusive relationship. Women of colour are some of the most unprotected people in society."
One moment in the movie shows Julia throw Pascal a surprise dinner at his apartment using a key he gave her, and the shoot left the cast and crew in "tears".
Writer and director Niki Byrne said: "There were a lot of tears on set that night. Of all the moments we shot, the crew was gently sobbing during that one.
"We did multiple takes, and he would come in and be so unkind to her, and then she’d break and we’d all be gutted."
Chase rose to fame for her role alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie One Battle After Another, and found the sudden attention difficult to adjust to.
She previously told The Sunday Times newspaper: "A lot of the things that I'm achieving now were not even a thought in my brain that they could ever happen.
"So a lot of it is me still trying to wrap my head around the fact that this is my reality."
Infiniti says that the success of One Battle After Another has made her more confident in the company of others as she is a "pretty shy person".
She said: "When I first started out, I did not enjoy going to events because I didn't know anybody and nobody knew me. I'm a pretty shy person so those rooms are scary, really scary, and you're really putting yourself out there. But now I'm better at approaching people and being, like, 'Hi, my name is Chase, what's your name?'"
However, Chase later admitted to feeling overwhelmed while promoting the hit film.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: "Before starting the One Battle press, Paul [Thomas Anderson] and Leo had told me, 'Just so you know, this is a marathon. You’ve got to make sure that you energetically pace yourself.' 'Yeah, sure. I get it. Makes sense.' Then we actually started the junket days and the travelling, and I was like, 'Oh, this is really exhausting in a way that I’d never experienced before.'
"Granted, I had no idea what an awards season would look like. I had never promoted anything."
