Martine McCutcheon wants to resurrect her EastEnders alter ego Tiffany Mitchell.

The feisty barmaid endured a tumultuous relationship with Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp), which ended in her being hit by Frank Butcher's (Mike Reid) car on New Year's Eve 1998, following yet another spat with Grant.

With Pat Evans (Pam St. Clement) and Barry Evans (Shaun Williamson) returning to Walford as ghosts this Christmas as part of Nigel Bates' (Paul Bradley) dementia storyline, Martine, 49, is also up for making a shock comeback.

She told the Sunday Mirror's Notebook magazine: "I love to play great, sweet, endearing characters, snooty, sassy little vixens like Tiffany.

"If there was a flashback or a memory or whatever, and there was a way to know more and understand Tiffany more now, then I would be definitely, always be up for it.

"I mean, what an amazing character she was."

Tiffany was an integral part of EastEnders back in the 1990s, and had some notable storylines, such as her fraught relationship with Grant due to his controlling nature and affairs - including with her mum Louise Raymond (Carol Harrison) - and giving birth to their daughter Courtney.

On New Year's Eve 1998, 12 million viewers watched as Tiffany rocked up to the Queen Victoria pub to take Courtney from Grant, but he refused to hand the tot over, causing Tiffany to chase him into Albert Square.

Tiffany screamed at Grant to demand him to hand over Courtney, and after a fight in the street, she ran towards him, only to be run over by Frank in his car.

And 27 years later, Martine - who was 18 years old when she shot to fame as Tiffany in 1995 - described her experience on the soap as thrilling.

She recalled: "It was rock 'n' roll. It was the 90s. The whole country was invested in things at the same time, in their millions. It was so powerful."

As EastEnders and Top of the Pops were both filmed at Elstree Studios, North London, in the 1990s, it meant the young soap cast could hang out with pop stars.

Martine continued: "One minute, we'd be filming, and the next minute, I'd see Patsy [Palmer, Bianca Jackson], off on a golf buggy with Liam Gallagher hanging off the back.

"It was just so much fun. It was a really fun, youthful, innocent time in a way."
