Tom Daley admits Celebrity Traitors was 'harder than you expect'
Tom Daley reflects on his time on The Celebrity Traitors.
Tom Daley has admitted The Celebrity Traitors was "far harder than you expect".
The 31-year-old former Olympic diver was a contestant on the first celebrity spinoff of the BBC's hit game of bluff, and he has opened up about the biggest challenges he faced during filming in Scotland at Ardross Castle.
He told FAULT Magazine: "Not having contact with my family was really tough.
"I also thought I was good at reading people, but it’s far harder than you expect.
"You don’t see every conversation or every facial expression, and that makes it much more difficult to figure out what’s going on."
Tom also pointed out how filming only finishes "when you leave" at night, and you're isolated until everyone gets together at the castle for breakfast the following day.
He explained: "The cameras only stop when you leave. You don’t speak to anyone until breakfast the next morning.
"It’s the only thing you’re thinking about while you’re there. You don’t have your phone or any connection to the outside world."
Tom revealed he turned to "journaling" as a way to pass the time.
He added: "I found myself journaling when I got back to my room, but otherwise, you’re completely in it… The game never really stops."
Tom was the third player to leave the game after Paloma Faith and Nico Omilana, and just the second to be killed off by Traitors Jonathan Ross, Cat Burns, and eventual winner Alan Carr.
While some contestants like Joe Marler were quick to point out that the whole thing is just a game, Tom admitted he always has a "competitive" edge, whatever he does.
He said: "My whole life has been competitive, whether in diving, Monopoly, or anything else. So of course, I wanted to win.
"Everything I get involved in has a competitive edge to it, whether it’s diving, The Traitors, or a knitting competition!"
