The second series of the Bergerac reboot will centring on a murder at a wedding reception in Jersey.
Actor Damien Molony, 41, is returning as titular detective Jim Bergerac in the upcoming second season of the cop show, produced by U and U Drama.
It has already wrapped filming and unveiled first-look images showing Molony back in the lead role alongside returning cast members and new additions.
The latest season continues the reimagined take on the classic 1980s detective drama, created by Toby Whithouse.
Its synopsis reveals Bergerac’s second instalment follows Jim as he begins to rebuild his life.
His mother-in-law, Charlie Hungerford, played by Zoë Wanamaker, has a new relationship, while Jim is encouraged by his daughter Kim, portrayed by Chloé Sweetlove, to start dating again.
The new storyline takes a dramatic turn when Jim meets Nicola, played by Camilla Beeput – a visitor to the island of Jersey – with whom he quickly forms a connection.
But before their relationship can develop, he is drawn into a murder investigation after a groom is found dead in his hotel room during his wedding reception.
The synopsis states: “Jim Bergerac is starting to put his life back together, while his mother-in-law Charlie Hungerford (Wanamaker) has a new man in her life.”
It continues: “Jim’s even tentatively dating, with Kim’s (Sweetlove) encouragement, although it’s a big step for him. But then he meets Nicola (Beeput), a visitor to Jersey, and they connect. Could this be the start of something for Jim?”
The wedding murder provides the season’s central mystery, with the synopsis revealing: “When the groom at a wedding reception on the island is found murdered in his hotel room, the wedding party comes under intense suspicion and scrutiny.”
It adds: “Jim will have to decipher the victim’s cryptic last words from his speech if he is ever going to bring the killer to justice. And when Jim starts to unravel old secrets, more skeletons come to light, making this his most intricate case yet.”
Other returning cast members include Robert Gilbert, while new additions feature Adrian Edmondson, Lesley Sharp, Camilla Beeput and Turlough Convery.
This contemporary version of Bergerac was first launched by U Drama in 2024.
It reinvents the beloved detective character originally portrayed by John Nettles.
Damien has said his portrayal takes the show in a darker direction.
Speaking to Radio Times ahead of the first season, he said: “I wasn’t trying to copy Nettles’s Bergerac. I was bringing my own thing to it. I think this is darker.”
Filmed on location in Jersey, Bergerac will return to U Drama in 2026.
