Celebrity Race Across the World's Roman Kemp no 'nepo kid with no idea of the value of money'
Roman Kemp hopes his Celebrity Race Across the World appearance will show people he is not a "nepo kid with no idea of the value of money".
Roman Kemp wanted to prove he is not a "nepo kid with no idea of the value of money" on Celebrity Race Across the World.
The BBC show will see the 32-year-old TV personality, his 36-year-old sister Harley Moon Kemp - whose parents are Spandau Ballet group member Martin Kemp, 64, and former Wham! backing singer, 63 year old Shirlie Kemp - and three other celebrity duos ditch luxury for backpacks.
They are racing against each other on a 5,900km route from Isla Mujeres, the most eastern point of Mexico, to the Peninsula de La Guajira in Colombia.
They only have £30 a day, and Roman and Harley Moon wanted to experience life with "zero VIP treatment" - as Roman wrote on Instagram.
He told the new issue of Radio Times magazine: "Getting local buses gave us a grasp of the countries we were in.
"People think we are nepo kids with no idea of the value of money, but we wanted that taste of reality more than anyone."
Roman has talked openly about battling anxiety, and he signed up for Celebrity Race Across the World to test the disorder.
The One Show host explained: "I came off all medication [antidepressants] over a year ago, and the race was a good test for my anxiety.
"It's probably the best thing I've ever done on television, but doing the race itself was hell!
"I used to watch it and wonder why a contestant was crying - well, that was me."
Harley Moon revealed she was going to do the first series of Celebrity Race Across the World in 2023 with mum Shirlie.
The singer-songwriter said: "My mum was asked to be in the first Celebrity Race Across the World and was going to take me, but thought it sounded too hard.
"I was glad to have another chance to go."
The three other celebrity duos embarking on the ultimate adventure are broadcaster Anita Rani, 48, and her dad, Bal, actor Dylan Llewellyn, 33, and his mum, Jackie, and partners, presenter Tyler West, 29, and 24-year-old actress, Molly Rainford.
The 2025 series of Celebrity Race Across the World begins on Thursday, November 6, at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
