Carol McGiffin has "lately started to hate [her] own face".

The former Loose Women panellist does not recognise herself in the mirror anymore and is saddened that her facelift - which she had in 2018 - has not lasted as long as she hoped.

Carol, 65, wrote in her latest column for Best magazine: "Lately, I have started to hate my own face. That doesn't mean I hate myself, no, I love myself because I am fabulous!

"But, when I look in the mirror, I don't see myself anymore, I see a decrepit old woman, and I think, 'Who the b***** hell is that???

"It's partly my own fault, I suppose, for having a great life and living in the sun, but also for not buying into the Botox or other 'tweaks' for all these years, but silly me, I thought the expensive, full 'cut and paste' facelift I had in 2018 would last longer than it has.

"Unfortunately, I'm not one of those women who have the money, the time and the high pain threshold to endure endless needles or whatever else is going into their faces.

"Am I jealous? Yeah, actually I am! Because some of those women look unbelievable."

One of those people is Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas.

Shirley, 65, is convinced she looks 20 years younger after recently splashing out thousands of pounds on non-invasive procedures to improve her skin.

The dancer's non-surgical facelift - which took place at the W1 Skin Clinic in London - saw her undergo six NeoGen nitrogen plasma treatments, including the Triple Collagen Reset procedure, which starts at £2,750 for three treatments and £4,675 for six treatments, as well as an additional £400 for aftercare products.

Speaking of the 'Queen of Latin', Carol said: "Shirley Ballas isn't helping with my lack of facial self-esteem either.

"She's all over the place looking plump and youthful but, she swears, facelift-free. I believe her, but if there is something out there that can lift like that, and erase all lines without using a knife, then I want it."

Carol's husband, Mark Cassidy, 43, likes his spouse's natural beauty.

She said: "Luckily, Mark doesn't seem to mind, or he pretends not to notice, but it's all made worse by the fact he's younger than me by 22 years and had his eyesight fixed a few years ago, so instead of waking up to a blurred beauty, he gets the harsh reality.

"The only positive is that he also lives in the sun and is ageing as well, very nicely as it happens."

Carol says she may just embrace ageing because getting more work done may result in her looking "weird".

She admitted: "I don't know what the answer is.

"I could have my face painted with acid so it falls off to reveal a young me underneath? Or, I could chuck away all my mirrors. Or, if it's not too late, I could get tweaking.

"Then again, I probably won't because what if I can't stop and end up looking weird?

"I think I'd rather just look old."
