Michelle Mone set to be subject of ‘warts-and-all’ BBC documentary
After she built her empire in the ’90s and became embroiled in a Covid PPE scandal, lingerie tycoon, Michelle Mone is set to be the subject of a “warts-and-all” BBC documentary.
Michelle Mone will be the subject of a “warts-and-all” documentary about the building of her business empire.
The Baroness, 53, who is worth around £102 million after founding the Ultimo push-up bra in 1999, will feature in the BBC film, which is due to tell how the former model from the East End of Glasgow became hugely wealthy in a male-dominated business world.
Simon Young, head of commissioning, history, at the BBC, said: “It’s still unclear where this story will end, but there’s no better time to go back to understand where it all began.
“It will reveal the foundations of one of the most astonishing stories in the recent history of British business.”
The Sun reported the show will be a “warts-and-all” portrayal of Michelle, with the film titled ‘The Rise and Fall of Michelle Mone’.
It is expected to air early next year and will look at how she grew her underwear empire in the 1990s.
She hit a high when she was made a baroness in 2015 – but her reputation took a hammering in 2020 when she was at the centre of a Covid scandal.
It was alleged she had used her membership of the House of Lords to use a VIP “fast lane” to recommend a company called PPE Medpro to supply protective equipment to the government during the pandemic.
Michelle and her husband Douglas Barrowman publicly denied any involvement with the company, which was subsequently accused of supplying faulty PPE.
But she later told the BBC she and Douglas stood to benefit from a £60million profit made on the PPE deal.
The show on her life will also hear from those who witnessed Michelle’s career rise and scandal, from friends to former colleagues, journalists and lawyers.
