Dame Prue Leith's family have banned her from ever taking part in 'Strictly Come Dancing'.

The 84-year-old star is frequently ready to say yes to the "mad things" she gets asked to appear on but her family urged her not to take part in the BBC Latin and ballroom contest when she was approached to be the show's oldest-ever contestant.

She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I do get asked to do mad things, and my instinct is always to say yes but my family says, ‘No you can’t do Strictly.'

And the 'Great British Bake Off' judge also admitted she wouldn't take part in ITV's 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' - because she doesn't think she'd be able to manage with the basic facilities in camp.

She said: "If I sat on the floor I’d never get up again.”

Meanwhile, Prue spent the summer holidaying in Uzbekistan and though she was in a "rural community", she was very impressed by the standard of food.

She said: “Everything we did there was for the first time. The food was good, a lot of kebabs, wonderful vegetables, beautiful bread.

“It’s all organic, they’re a rural community and they are deeply suspicious of chemicals, as we should be, but because they cost too much.

"It changes your mind about what civilisation is. We have this Western idea that it all started with the Renaissance but it’s absolute baloney.”

As well as her family urging her not to do 'Strictly', the culinary expert previously admitted her team had stopped her from taking part in 'Dancing On Ice' because they were worried she was "too old" to escape serious injury.

Speaking in 2017, she told the Daily Star newspaper: "I thought it’d be the perfect way to get fit, lose a lot of weight and learn a new skill.

"I was actually quite excited, but my team said, 'Absolutely not'.

"They told me I was far too old and if I fell over, I would break something – and then I thought they were probably right."
