Jenna Ortega's 'Wednesday' role "came out of nowhere".

The 21-year-old actress plays Wednesday Addams in the hit Netflix horror-comedy series, and Jenna has revealed that the role caught her family off guard, because it's so far removed from her real-life self.

The Hollywood star said on 'TODAY': "That one really came out of nowhere because I was a really expressive child when I was younger, so to be known for this deadpan persona, it's so funny to my family."

Jenna has reunited with director Tim Burton to make 'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice', and the actress has admitted that she jumped at the opportunity to star in the new film.

She shared: "Tim kind of threw me off guard when he told me this. He gave me the script, I pulled over on the side of the road and just read it as soon as I possibly could.

"Within two hours, I called my team. I said, 'I can't tell you what this is about, but just know I'm doing another job with Tim.'"

Meanwhile, Jenna previously revealed that she can see similarities between her real-life self and her 'Wednesday' character.

The actress admitted to having a similar sense of humour to her on-screen character.

She told PEOPLE: "People have been telling me I look like her since I was six years old. And I have a pretty dark sense of humour!"

Despite this, Jenna needed to make some adjustments in order to play Wednesday.

She said: "I had to do things a bit different with my physicality and the way I carried myself.

"She almost has a social awkwardness. So when she does toxic, manipulative things, you know it's not coming out of malicious intent."
