Jenna Ortega moving away from TV 'for a while' after wrapping Wednesday series 3
Jenna Ortega plans to take a break from television after wrapping filming on season three of Wednesday, while admitting she initially doubted the show's potential and remains baffled by its global success.
Jenna Ortega will be away from TV "for a while" after wrapping Wednesday series three.
The 24-year-old actress recently finished filming the latest season of the Netflix comedy - in which she portrays Wednesday Addams - and she is planning to "leave time" to explore some other opportunities going forward.
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, she said: "I actually haven’t had a lot of franchise conversations. I haven’t.
"But what I’m meant to do will come and find me.
"I think after Wednesday, I’ll probably be off the TV for a while.
"You know, I had many years doing that.
"I was bouncing from show to show as a kid, this to this, and I want to leave time for new things."
Jenna didn't think Wednesday "was working" during the early days of production, and she struggled to watch the initial episodes.
And when the series grew in popularity, the star thought it was a "sick mind game" the world was playing with her.
Speaking about the show's success, she said: "I couldn't believe it. I really couldn't believe it.
"They had sent me an episode or two to watch out of courtesy before [season 1] came out, and I couldn't make it through the first five minutes.
"So when people started freaking out over it, and I started getting recognised ... It really felt like some sick mind game that the world was [playing]."
The You actress is still "confused" by Wednesday's success now.
She added: "I just thought, 'There's no way.'
"Still to this day, I am a little confused by it."
Jenna previously took some time off from acting, and has since admitted she was "so scared" about the break.
During an appearance on Kid Cudi's Big Bro podcast, she explained: "I was so scared. I was so scared. I remember the first few weeks I thought, 'OK, I don’t really know what to do with my hands. Maybe I should, like, pick up a hobby?' "
However, Jenna was able to embrace her time off and she enjoyed being able to cook after spending so much time away from home while working.
She explained: "I learned so much about what I enjoy and what I don’t enjoy. I know how to entertain myself real well now, and I just got to do real domestic stuff that I was missing out on for a while, like cooking. I never got to cook because you’re living in a hotel room."
