Kate Winslet had to be "really f****** brave" to strip off for her new movie role and decided not to listen to the advice given to her by crew members.
Kate Winslet had to be "really f****** brave" to strip off for her new movie role.
The 47-year-old actress stars in World War II drama 'Lee' and explained that when shooting a topless scene in the title role of the model-turned-frontline photojournalist Lee Miller, she had to just "get on with it" despite what others might think of her.
She told British Vogue: "You know I had to be really f******* brave about letting my body be its softest version of itself and not hiding from that. “I know better than to waste precious energy on criticizing my physical self. I think any woman is better off just saying: ‘I believe in myself. It doesn’t matter what other people think. This is who I am - let’s get on with it."
The 'Titanic' star went on to add that some members of the crew would encourage her to sit up a bit whilst she posed for the camera in a bikini but would question why and ultimately decided to show off her figure as is.
She said: "And believe me, people amongst our own team would say, ‘You might just want to sit up a bit'. 'And I’d go, ‘Why? [Because of] the bit of flesh you can see? No, that’s the way it’s going to be!’"
When an editor tried to airbrush her stomach for a scene in her hit drama series 'The Mare of Easttown', Kate was defiant and insisted against it.
She told The New York Times: "Don’t you dare! [Mare’s] a fully functioning, flawed woman with a body and a face that moves in a way that is synonymous with her age and her life and where she comes from. I think we’re starved of that a bit!"
