Pop star Girli teams up with Bluebella for lingerie Pride Collection
Pop star Girli has teamed up lingerie company Bluebella to model the new Pride Collection which will raise money for Outright International, a global LGBTIQ rights organisation which helps people around the world who are discriminated due to their sexuality.
British pop sensation Girli has teamed up Bluebella for the lingerie company's new Pride campaign.
The 'Cheap Love' singer can be seen modelling underwear in all the colours of the rainbow flag, and Girli signed up to the campaign to raise the issue that there are still 68 countries around the world where homosexuality is still criminalised, and 11 where there is still the death penalty. Nearly half of the 32 countries where being gay is a crime are former British colonies and are part of the Commonwealth.
It is estimated that of the 2.9 billion people living in these countries and 174 million of them identify as LGBTIQ.
Just last week, Commonwealth country Uganda brought out new draconian Anti-Homosexuality legislation which means anyone convicted now faces life imprisonment.
Girli said: "Pride for me is about fighting for the rights that still aren't available around the world.
"I am honoured to work with Bluebella on this campaign. It's important to celebrate Pride month and support the community in any way we can. I'm thrilled to be part of a campaign that celebrates inclusivity and diversity."
Bluebella Founder and CEO Emily Bendell added: "Girli is the perfect person to front out Pride campaign. She is beautifully outspoken in her life and music about sexuality and feminism, plus she is frank and feisty ... just who we love our campaign stars."
Bluebella is providing 10 percent of profits from the sale of the Pride Collection to Outright International, a global LGBTIQ rights organisation which helps people around the world who are discriminated due to their sexuality.
In the past few years, Girli - real name Amelia Toomey - has taken the music scene by storm with her unique and unapologetic approach to an alt-pop sound that has grabbed the attention of a whole new audience.
Girli's outspoken persona and rebellious attitude have gained her a loyal and passionate following made up of LGBTIQ youth and politically active followers.
Describing her own sexuality, the musician said: "The main word to describe my sexuality is queer. I've found that word through many different incantations of trying to express my sexuality and that feels like the most true and authentic because it's very open and that's how I feel about my sexuality.
"Expressing yourself how you want to express, that's what this lingerie collection kind of screams to me. For me it took a long time to realise that my queerness is still as valid, it's valid all the time, and I decide that. No one else decides that."
Elise Colomer-Cheadle, Director of Development at Outright International, spoke about Girli and Bluebella's collaboration and work with the organisation, insisting they "remain deeply grateful to call Bluebella our ally and partner".
Elise said: "Bluebella continues to elevate Outright's work advocating for the human rights of LGBTIQ communities around the world.
"Through our collaboration, Bluebella extends the reach of Outright's mission, giving a voice to the voiceless by amplifying the issues impacting LGBTIQ people globally. At a time where anti-LGBTIQ movements are mobilising, we remain deeply grateful to call Bluebella our ally and partner."
