Paul Rudd felt 'strange' during filming for Friends finale
'Ant-Man' actor Paul Rudd admits he felt "strange" on set for the final 'Friends' episode because of the bond between the main cast members.
Paul Rudd felt "strange" on set for the final 'Friends' episode.
The 53-year-old actor - who played Mike Hannigan, the boyfriend of Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow) - was part of the iconic sitcom's last ever episode as the two characters were getting married, and he admitted it all felt "a bit surreal" as he joined the cast relatively late in the game.
He told the Heart Breakfast radio show: "It was really fun, and they were great! The whole thing was a bit surreal, I must say, to be a part of that — because I came on really at the end... I never knew that I was going to be in as many [episodes] as I was.
"But it also felt strange. I was in that last episode, and I just thought, 'I shouldn't be here. I'm getting a front-row seat to things I'm not supposed to see.'
"They were all crying, it was all emotional, and I was just like, 'woah!' I mean, I felt privileged, but I also was like, I just wanna sit back here and not get in the way."
The 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania' star understands the longstanding appeal of 'Friends', and he's grateful it's still on as much as it is.
He added: "There's something comforting about it, isn't there? And it's on a lot! In the States, you can always flip around on some channel, you're gonna find it."
Asked if there is a group chat for the cast, he quipped: "If there is, I'm not on it!"
Meanwhile, Paul previously admitted his tenure on the show - which lasted from 2002 to 2004 - was almost very short lived after a mistake on his first day.
He recalled: "I was on the set for my first episode and Jennifer [Aniston] was on a Segway because she had broken her toe, and everyone was marvelling at it.
"Matt LeBlanc asked to have a go and immediately knew how to do it. I then asked to try it too. I spun round and rolled it right over Jennifer's foot!
"The producer's look of panic was if to say, 'Is it too late to fire him? Has his character been established yet?' I felt awful. Such an inauspicious start."
