Marty Supreme and Sinners lead race as MacGuffin Awards nominees unveiled
The Property Masters Guild has announced the nominations for its annual MacGuffin Awards, recognising the industry's leading prop masters across film, television and short-form productions ahead of September's ceremony
Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another and Sinners are among the film contenders recognised in this year’s MacGuffin Awards nominations.
The movies were included as the Property Masters Guild unveiled the productions and craftspeople in contention for honours celebrating the work of prop masters across film and television.
The annual awards recognise the behind-the-scenes artists responsible for sourcing, designing and managing the props that help bring productions to life on screen.
Winners will be announced during a live ceremony on 12 September.
Among the highest-profile nominees are Marty Supreme, starring Timothée Chalamet, whose recent projects have also included the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, and Sinners, the Ryan Coogler-directed vampire thriller starring Michael B. Jordan – which has remained one of the year’s most talked-about releases following its critical and commercial success.
One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is also nominated after generating awards-season attention ahead of its release.
Jeffrey Johnson, president of the Property Masters Guild, said: “Year after year, the caliber of work submitted for these awards reaffirms just how much Property Masters shape the stories we love.
“We started this award to make sure that kind of artistry never goes unnoticed, and this year’s field proves exactly why that mission matters.”
The nominations also continue recognition for several previous winners.
Michael Jortner is nominated in the Period Feature Film category for Marty Supreme after winning the same award last year for A Complete Unknown, the Bob Dylan biographical drama led by Timothée Chalamet.
Douglas L. Ware, nominated for his work on Sinners, recently discussed one of the production’s biggest challenges during an interview with Variety.
He said the most difficult prop to secure for the entire film was Miles Caton’s guitar.
Sinners has become one of the standout films of the year following its box office success and acclaim for Ryan Coogler’s direction and Michael B. Jordan’s dual performance.
The film has featured prominently in early awards conversations, while Marty Supreme has also attracted attention as Timothée’s latest starring role following the success of Dune, Dune: Part Two and Wonka. One Battle After Another has similarly become one of the most closely watched forthcoming releases from Paul Thomas Anderson, with Leonardo leading an ensemble cast.
